Yayoi’s obsession with dots can be traced back to her childhood, where she began experiencing hallucinations of dots, flowers, and other patterns. These hallucinations have inspired her art throughout her career, where she has used dots as a symbol of infinity, obliteration, and the interconnectedness of the universe.  Along with dots, she was also drawn to  pumpkins as a child due to their unique shapes and bright colours. Kusama has described pumpkins as a source of spiritual energy, believing that their shape and colours have the power to heal and uplift the human spirit.
